Kick-off tonight

New Zealand is wild with excitement. Flash mobs break into impromptu street Hakas and the arrival of the Tongan team almost stopped Auckland as their thousands of adoring fans welcomed them.
Got my campervan booked for a month-but left camp site bookings too late and getting that all full message. Will have to call on my Kimberley wilderness camping experience to ferret-out sleepy, off the track, seaside municipalities which will not hound me off their promenades.

All Blacks 3 up already against Tonga-can't wait to get amongst the action.Leave Melbourne on 6am flight next Friday. Get into Auckland just after 11am, pick up campervan and go looking for somewhere to park it along the rail line to Eden Park ground.

Former ACI colleague and native Kiwi-although now domiciled in Coffs Harbour-takes me on an Auckland tour on my second day and in the evening we go to my first game, Wallabies versus Ireland. Then on Sunday off to Hamilton(where I intend becoming reacquainted with a superb restaurant bar) for Wales v Samoa.

Quit a few rugby free days follow and I may head across to join the international surf nomads in the quirky sea-side town of Raglan-maybe NZ's answer to Byron Bay, only much more relaxed and authentic without the bling class. Bound to be rugby festival fun on offer and sure to be giant TV screens everywhere along with Monteith's black beer for those who can't kick the rugby habit.

But why even try when one can watch "The game they play in heaven."
